UP Film Institute this New Year
The UP Film Institute unveils its lineup of screenings for New Year 2009. The premier state university premiere for Lav Diaz’ Melancholia—Winner of Orrizonti Prize from Venice International Film Festival—and the full run for ufo Pictures’ Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros are among the highlights.
Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros along with the digital indie feature Binyag banners a string of titles in exhibition with the coming-of-age theme. Surprise prize-winning short films will alternate to accompany their respective screenings.
The 1st Queeriosity International Film Festival spearheaded by Cris Pablo, for its part, is slated for a preview run along with the selection from the latest edition of Animahenasyon Animation Festival and the Kidlat Tahimik retrospective jointly mounted by UP’s four major film student organizations.
Completing the January screenings are Baz Luhrmann’s “Red Curtain Trilogy” for this year’s Cinema Australia of the Australian Embassy in commemoration of Australia’s National Day and a cinethon of Ronaldo Bertubin films—Sikil, Kurap, Lovebirds—interspers ed with his breakthrough and awarded short feature Lansa.
